Members - Linda Chown

Born in St. John's, Newfoundland, and based for much of her life in St. Catharines, Ontario, Linda Chown approaches painting as an act of rediscovery and intuitive exploration. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Guelph, where studies in Art History informed her early engagement with painting and drawing.

Following a 21-year teaching career and years devoted to raising her three daughters, Linda returned to the studio with a renewed commitment to her creative practice.

Her evolving process has been shaped through continued study at the Haliburton School of the Arts, where she explored acrylic painting, mixed media, and collage, as well as through immersive learning experiences, including a retreat with Flora Bowley and participation in an international online community founded by Nicholas Wilton.

Working intuitively, Linda builds layered abstract compositions that echo rhythms found in the natural world. Her paintings unfold through gesture, colour, and accumulated marks, balancing spontaneity with reflection. Suggestive rather than descriptive, her work invites viewers into spaces of movement, memory, and quiet transformation, where landscape becomes feeling and process becomes presence.
