Join us for the opening reception! Thursday, April 4, 7 - 9 pm
Niagara Pumphouse Visual Arts Centre
247 Ricardo Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake
“Common Ground” arose from our mutual admiration for the Niagara region, an area that glows with hot summer days that are cooled by the lake breeze, and that brims with lush fields and sparkling rivers.
The light that sprawls across Niagara is unique. Though our styles differ, Dan Pigeon and I share a deep awe and respect for light. Dan finds gloomy and foggy winter days to be especially moving, and the aspect he admires most about light is its ability to
obscure a landscape in any season. I, on the other hand, am captivated by light’s ability to create a full range of values, temperatures and levels of intensity, and am particularly drawn to strongly lit scenes such as the glow of the sun dropping behind a
dark tree line.
In this exhibit, Dan and I portray various Niagara landscapes in our own individual ways; the result is a juxtaposition of Dan’s abstracted approach to the landscape and my more impressionistic style. Working from the same set of reference images, our paintings
will hang side-by-side along with the sketches we used to capture our initial impressions of the scenes.
“Common Ground” is our joint love letter to the enduring beauty of the Niagara landscape.
Join us on April 4 to see the whole collection!
